Merzouga Desert – 3 days 2 nights
Overview
The Merzouga Desert is the most impressive part of Morocco’s Sahara Desert, and it is exactly like what you imagine when thinking of a desert, with beautiful reddish yellow undulating dunes. The Erg Chebbi dunes, south of Merzouga, are extremely impressive standing 492 ft (150 km) high.
It takes 10 hours to get to Merzouga from Marrakech by car or by bus (341 miles – 550 km). Since the distance is so vast, you’ll normally spend a night in a hotel halfway through the journey.
The dunes are breath-taking and despite the journey taking longer, it is more relaxing and more enjoyable thanks to the various stops. The changing landscape which you will see during the tour are as worthwhile as the desert itself. Some of the highlights of the excursion are: Aït Benhaddou, Valley of Roses, Dadès Gorges, Drâa Valley and Todra Gorges. These are all extremely surprising and remarkable and very little visited.
Once you get to the desert you will go camel riding to the campsite. In the resting area you will spend the night in a Berber tent. At dusk you will normally have a traditional dinner and are sometimes accompanied by musicians that liven the soiree. Waking up at dawn to see the sunrise is one of the best parts of the trip.
Once the sun is up on day 3 and you’ve had breakfast, it is time to go back.

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
